In many ways a fine yacht is just like a fine home with one major exception. It must MOVE safely and reliably over some of the most unpredictable and remote surfaces on earth . . . water! Therefore, it must carry its own propulsion, fuel, electricity, water, waste management, air conditioning, food storage-preparation-and-disposal-capabilities, entertainment facilities, navigational and communications systems, as well as redundant systems for water, fire and other emergency situations. Our yachts are similar to other fine vessels when it comes to meeting the above challenges.

Our strategy revolves around time proven engineering utilizing top of the line components:
• The finest resins and coring materials
• The latest in marine architecture
• State-of-the-art equipment

The end result is a superior machine capable of serving its marine purpose for years and years. Most fine yachts end their quest for excellence here.

We at Altima Yachts go a few steps further, however. We have remained aware of the second, and oft forgotten, core requirement of a large cruising vessel. It must be as comfortable on the water as any fine home on land. To that simple objective we have applied a considerable amount of attention and innovation. The following chart illustrates our commitment to overall excellence in your cruising experience. It can be printed out to serve as a comparison guide to our fellow competitors.

Altima - Quality

Quality, in a yacht, is often out in the open, ready to be observed and admired. But sometimes it is hidden behind wall panels, bulkheads or in the very hull itself. Therefore, the process of judging the quality of any vessel should include careful review of not only those components that you can visually inspect, but also, those critical areas of hull construction and electrical distribution.

This section will give you detailed information about all processes used in the creation of our line of cruising yachts. It should confirm our belief that Altima builds one of the finest cruising vessels available... one that will provide years and years of reliable and pleasurable service.

Design
Our vessels have been designed with four major factors in mind:

1. Safety
2. Performance
3. Pleasure
4. Maintenance and Resale

  • Safety of captain and crew is paramount when venturing beyond the horizon.  All Altima yachts have hull configurations that stress strength and durability. Our hulls have front collision zones and bulkheads designed to absorb and control damage caused by floating and semi submerged dangers. Our running gear is protected by full keels and propeller pockets (optional). Top decks are designed with wide and sheltered walk arounds capped by superb bulwarks and railing systems for ease of vessel operation in any kind of weather.

  • Our yachts feature semi planning hulls which allow speeds not usually found in vessels of our displacement. Cruising speeds average 17+ knots with top “get out of trouble” speeds exceeding 20+ knots. Range of our larger vessels at 9 knots can exceed 1,400 miles with a burn rate of 1.5 MPG. Sea keeping capabilities are superb. Weight management, weight placement, deep keels, and fine entries combine for excellent natural stability in any sea. Low shaft angles also contribute to very efficient acceleration and fuel consumption.

  • If properly designed, life on a cruising yacht should be as comfortable as that in you home on land. Inclusion and placement of all the “comforts of home” are critical to enjoyment on the water. The ability to achieve this balance in a confined space like a yacht requires focus and ingenuity. More on this subject in Layouts below.

  • The true cost of a yacht is not the buy price... it’s the buy price plus operating costs minus the resale price. Altima yachts improves your investment picture in three ways:

    - Our boats are among the “biggest bangs for the buck” in the industry... so you save going in.
    - Our boats are designed to be as maintenance free as possible. Wood is kept indoors... no exterior trim that requires expensive upkeep or replacement. All stainless is highest grade 316. All windows are tinted for interior UV protection. Shaft angles are very low reducing wear on engines, transmissions and bearings. Our hulls and engine packages produce excellent fuel utilization resulting in significant savings over the life of the vessel.
    - Our boats are conservative in profile. Our designs are traditional and time tested therefore not subject to falling out of fashion. Therefore, resale values should continue to be high.

Woodwork

Woodworking has been a fine art in the Orient for thousands of years. It has been the hallmark of the better Asian produced vessels for the last 40 years. Altima has built upon this legacy in several ways.

  • All wood used in one of our vessels is hand chosen and produced from the same log for consistency of color and grain.

  • All wood is kiln dried and then set aside for 12 months to naturally achieve its final dimensions.  This greatly improves our ability to execute joinery that is of the highest quality... both initially and for years thereafter.

  • Traditional joinery techniques are used in all cabinetry including mitering and dovetailing.

  • All wood surfaces are book matched for color and grain.

  • All doors are reset and arched for beauty and strength.

  • Waterproof polyurethane adhesives are used for long term strength and durability.

  • Finishes use high quality polyurethane applied in either high gloss or satin. They are applied in strict environmental conditions including particle, temperature, and moisture control.

  • All non-stone floors in living areas are solid planked teak & holly. This timber is obtained from renewable sources and is of the highest quality.  Wood planked flooring is not only beautiful but can be refinished for decades.

  • Altima offers one of the most flexible wood selection processes in the industry. We will use whatever woods you desire if we or you can secure enough high quality stock to produce the interior with safety and long term maintenance stock.

Layouts

Our yachts are designed with what industry experts have called “a lot of common sense”. Living areas are created that replicate how people live in their homes. They abound with small touches that make time on the water as pleasurable as possible:

  • All living areas are as open and airy as possible.. no smoky gentlemen’s club atmosphere here.

  • Galleys are as convenient to the chef and their crew as possible... always up, never down.

  • Our boats (with the exception of the 45’) provide a fully finished day head next to the cockpit and salon... no more long trips down to the lower accommodations.

  • The lower helm has 360 degree visibility.

  • Rather than dedicate a third stateroom to occasional guests, a combination office/ suite is offered to provide greater day to day space utilization.

  • Storage is abundant throughout our vessels.  For instance on the 61’ pilothouse there are 94 separate storage compartments plus a huge lazarette and large storage hold on the bow.

  • Since Altima is a semi custom builder, we can usually accommodate whatever variations on our standard layouts that you desire.

Marble/Granite

All Altima galley and head countertops and soles are finished in stone. Many variations are available for selection. Special precautions are taken structurally to reinforce surfaces to accept and maintain the added weight. Custom made brass dividers separate and showcase the individual stone blocks.  The effect is extraordinary.

Fabrics

Altima uses only the finest in natural and engineered fabrics specifically designed for marine use.  Decors can be created by either your design team, our design team, or both.

Since vessel layouts are more fluid than most under Altima’s flexible build policy, the degree to which you can make the yacht your own is unmatched in the production yacht industry.

Lighting

Lighting on a yacht is just as important as it is in any fine home. In addition, the corrosive marine environment makes the use of very high quality equipment critical. Altima vessels use Cantalupi lighting in all external areas. These lighting systems feature state of the art illumination coupled with robust construction and corrosion resistant materials.  All walkarounds, overhangs, closets, engine room areas and boat deck spaces are fully lighted as well as all interior accommodations.  Night vision lighting is provided over the lower helm.

Hardware

Our vessels receive the finest and most substantial hardware available. Starting on the exterior of our vessels only 316 stainless is used in our 2.75 inch oval railings, hawseholes, custom door systems, hinges, and ground tackle. 316 is the industry’s gold standard molybdenum-bearing grade, providing particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in challenging environments.

All fixtures are top grade Moen Pegasus units. Door hardware is custom ordered from Italian Valli&Valli, provider of fine accessories to high end estates around the world.

All cabinetry feature hidden hinges with roller bearing drawer guides. The salons typically include hydraulic lifts for both the main flat panel TV as well as the main sofa table.

Hull & Deckhouse Construction

Our yachts are hand crafted by one of the oldest and most prestigious marine yards in the Orient. Activa Marine builds our vessels to our own very exacting specifications. In addition, our construction is guided by the requirements of ABS (USA), USCG (USA), NK (Japan), CR (Taiwan), and Lloyds (UK). Furthermore, our pilothouses have been fully inspected and certified by the NMMA as ABYC compliant. This certification is quite significant for a vessel in this size range.

One of the core elements of our construction process is the use of only three main molds; hull, deckhouse, and flybridge.  While the tooling is very expensive this approach yields far fewer seams in the finished product and a much more integrated and cohesive vessel. It is far less likely that a vessel so constructed would develop leaks or problems.

Additional elements in the build process are:

  • Our hull is hand applied, biaxially laid, solid FRP below the waterline.

  • Vinylester resin is used for hull lay-up in strictly controlled atmospheric conditions.

  • High quality Knytex is used as the standard roving however Kevlar is available, as an option, for use in collision zones.

  • Our upper hull, deck, deckhouse, and flybridge are cored with high strength, closed cell Divinycell foam and then vacuum bagged. This results in significantly greater strength to weight ratios and eliminates the chance for water incursion and subsequent delamination.

  • Our hull to deck joint is through-bolted every 5” (sealed with high strength waterproof  sealant) and encapsulated with multiple layers of FRP.

  • Our hulls feature a super stiff stringer system which incorporates longitudinal and transverse members as well integration with robust accommodation bulkheads. The resulting monocoque structure is not only tremendously strong but also very quiet under way.

  • Structural engine mounting incorporates massive lineal stringers cored with steel beams, cored with Divinycell, and encapsulated with heavy FRP.  Custom 316 engine mounts join the engines to the resulting rock solid foundation.  As a result noise and engine vibrations are kept to a minimum.

  • All areas under leveraged stress, such as stabilization points, running gear attachment points, and railings are reinforced with appropriate backing plates encapsulated in FRP.

  • All frameless window systems allow interesting architectural shapes that harmonize with the sculpted fiberglass surfaces. A high performance urethane adhesive/sealant joins the tempered safety glass to the aluminum-reinforced superstructure.

  • All interior surfaces (including storage areas), as well as exterior, are heavily gel coated for both aesthetic and maintenance purposes.

Wiring & Plumbing

All wiring and plumbing systems and subsystems have been designed and executed to the stringent standards set forth by the ABS and the ABYC. Thus, particular attention has been paid to labeling and color coding all electrical runs. All through holes have anti chafe protection. The highest quality termination equipment has been used. Robust grounding systems have been employed throughout. In order to reduce the number of through hull exit points to an absolute minimum, all drainage has been routed to a single master drain. Every major junction or fitting is both visually and physically accessible through a series of hatches throughout the vessel.  In every instance in the planning process, the deciding factor in choosing systems or methodology was...” Is it the safest way and will it last?”

Warranty

The Altima Warranty is short and to the point. If something goes wrong with one of our boats from a construction standpoint for up to 5 years we will fix it. So far in our company’s existence, no warranty claim on any of our hulls has been made. Each system aboard the vessel carries the manufacturers warranty and we will assist you in prosecuting the claim.

Note:  Altima reserves the right to change construction processes or vessel systems if the change is judged to produce a superior product.
